Kwagh-Hir” is an African theatrical performance with its roots derived from the Tiv tribe of the Benue valley that dates back to the 20th century. The cultural activity garnered prominence in the 60s and early 70s as a multipart dramatic competition that featured a form of storytelling through masquerade dances, and puppet displays .

It has even metamorphosed into a Pan-African festival with series ofa ctivities to thrill adventure seekers, tourists and its TV/online audience. Kwagh-Hir International Carnival will be a festival like no other.

Kwagh-Hir has come back with an exciting twist, after a 33 year hiatus. It has gained international recognition as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO.

It again made a comeback between 1979, into the early 90s– this time, expanding into an annual multi-cultural event that would air on Africa’s largest television network; the NTA– captivating its wider TV audience across other states in Nigeria and beyond.
